Laser SB3 National Championships 2008
It is rare that one of the biggest events of the season will be in honour of a class almost brand new on the Irish scene, and event rarer that it should be 'merely' a national championships, but with 73 boats from 6 nations lining up on Dublin Bay to contest the event everyone involved in the SB3 class can hold their head high. Indeed it could be said that only two bigger events will come to the country this year, and while one of these is a long established tradition in Crosshaven, the other is the Inaugural World Championships of the self same class! Little more than two years since a group of inquisitive sailors ventured north to see what the men of Bangor had gotten themselves involved in with this new keelboat it is a massive achievement, and despite the testing conditions that have become typical of Dublin Bay in recent years it promises to be a closely fought and entertaining championship.
