Due to the logistical commitment of getting the heritage barges and other boats to Lough Erne for the classic boats weekend a number of the Shannon One Design fleet's regular september regattas could not be held in the usual surrounding, and rather than loose them totally for 2006 it was decided to race the 'Barges & SODs' as a one day event on the Friday while the 'North Shannon Regatta' was sailed for over Saturday and Sunday.
