At the time of year most sailors are winterising their craft and drawing up a sheltered indoor worklist for the winter there are a whole different class of watersports enthusiast rubbing their hands in anticipation of a good winter gale or two. Although Windsurfing has been long established in Ireland it is going through somewhat of a competitive renaissance as new technology makes it easier to track an individual's speed across the water and people discover we have some of the best windy, flatwater potential in Europe. It is great credit to the small group of speedsailers in Ireland that they have managed to attract some of the top international talent in the sport to Dungarvan purely on the basis of a good forecast and remarkably favourable geography. If the wind just fullfils it's promise it could be quite some spectacle off Dungarvan strand...
