Fireball Leinster Championships 2010

The fireball is a high performance dingy approaching it's 50th birthday, but showing absolutely no sign that it's slipping into a graceful old age. The angular design may hark back to a time when world champions would build their own plywood boats, but the class has certainly kept pace with the times and changing technologies, and is seeing something of a resurgence in Ireland in recent years. Thirty boats made it to Howth for the Leinster Championships this weekend, with the top places hotly contested between crews from all along the east coast. The weather served up perfect conditions too and it was easy to see how this class has proved so enduringly popular.
