Wednesday

Wednesday dawned with glorious sunshine, but as the fleet launched the horizon turned an ominous dirty grey and before the warning signal went for the first race a heavy misty rain had descended across the course. The rain varied in intensity for the rest of the morning, with a number of fairly severe squals causing some of the mirrors condierable difficulty, and only cleared again as the leaders were approaching the final leeward mark. There was even stronger weather forecast to follow as the next bank of rain approached from the Atlantic though and the decision was taken to abandone the second race of the day.
