The National Yacht Club lept from one extreme of single-handed racing to the other in just a matter of hours as La Solitaire du Figaro disappeared over the horizon and the Topper Class took over the forecourt. Originally conceived as a family boat that could be taken anywhere atop even a modest car the class is particularly popular in the UK, but also has a healthy international fleet and devotees in many far flung places. With 175 entries this is another major international event for Dun Laoghaire, and the distinctive white, red and blue sails make quite a sight out in the bay.
